Division Director, Facilities Management

The UC Health Board recently approved over $250M in facilities, including significant renovation to the front drive and main lobby, a new emergency department with a patient tower, a new 3-story building adjacent to the hospital, and eight new operating rooms. It is a significant time of positive change and the excitement is palpable and the Division Director will lead facility operations during this exciting stage of organizational change and growth.

Position Description

he Division Director will assist in carrying out the mission of UC Health Facilities Management Group (FMG), with particular responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the UC Medical Center (UCMC) and UC Health Business Center (UCHBC) facilities, building equipment, systems, and department personnel. The Division Director will become an integral member of the Facilities Management Group’s executive team, participating in the development and execution of overall system-level and department-specific strategies, including physical plant infrastructure. The Division Director is responsible for managing operating budgets totaling $30M, 8 direct reports, and approximately 55 indirect reports. The staff is union based. 

The Division Director will have responsibility for sustaining operations and maintenance across a diverse asset portfolio, using a variety of in-sourced and outsourced service models in different environments according to the specific needs of the organization. This position will report to the Assistant Vice-President, Facilities and will be a member of the FMG leadership team. The Division Director will have operations and maintenance oversight for two locations:

  • UC Medical Center (UCMC), an academic medical center located on the Clifton campus. UCMC is the region’s only Adult Level 1 Trauma Center and currently has 550 staffed beds across 2.5 million square feet. An approved master plan is underway that will increase beds and square footage in the short and medium-range timeframe. 
  • UC Health Business Center (UCHBC) is a hospital campus that also houses corporate administrative and support services for the overall system. Presently there are 92 inpatient beds spread across 1.2 million square feet of mixed occupancy. Psychiatric emergency services are located onsite and the UCHBC is located adjacent to UC Medical Center.  There is an additional land parcel on the UCHBC site that includes a building and a parking garage, in addition to the 1.2 million square feet.


UC Health seeks a high performing healthcare leader who can unselfishly sustain a quality leadership team, while developing key relationships in a diverse operational environment. The leader must balance the core values of UC Health with the needs of the Facilities Management department.  The position requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Business, or equivalent, as well as a minimum of  6–10 years equivalent experience in a large scale, complex healthcare system. Management experience is required. A Certified Healthcare Facilities Manager (CHFM) is preferred, as is management experience in a union environment.

The ideal applicant will bring a demonstrated history of the effective management of diverse teams and the ability to think strategically to solve complex problems related to operations and facilities management. The Division Director must be a collaborative professional who leads by example and sets high department standards with staff and colleagues. Emotional intelligence is required, as is the ability to evaluate and if needed, implement programmatic and process change.
